California is planning to phase out all gas-powered automobiles by 2035.

California intends to prohibit the sale of new gasoline-powered automobiles. The California Air Resources Board declared in a statement that the board hopes to make it happen by 2035. Beginning in 2026, California will require that 35% of new vehicles be either partially or entirely electric. Plug-in hybrids will be treated the same as fully electric cars (EVs) if they have an electric-only range of 70 miles or more and meet all other EV criteria. "This is historic.
